You have probably come across people asserting on men having higher income as compared to the women. The wage gap or the gender gap defines the reason as to why women still earn low rates of income as compared to men. Does this mean that women work fewer hours than men, or is it a culture or a norm that has always been developed in the society. In order to understand the long debate theory of the wage gap, it is important to focus on the facts of the wage gap. The wage gap has always been in existence for over the last few decades where by men receive approximately 15% high income as compared to the women. All the states in America experience the wage gap but it is true that some states pay little as compared to others, Washington DC regarded as the best in paying women approximately 91% of the income men receive and the worst state Louisiana paying just 66% to women as compared to men. The wage gap has worsened and impacted the women of color and women without children face the challenge.
The smallest wage gap is clearly illustrated in the Asian American women income, followed by Hispanic women. Women without children are paid 82% as compared to the payment percentage of the male. Finally, every occupation that involves a woman is impacted by the wage gap and the wage gap increases as result of age signifying that all women occupation receive low rates of income as compared to men and women paid 90% of what men get until 35 years.
Somebody can ask why there is a wage gap. Sex discrimination is what comes into mind. The main idea is refusal of promoting and hiring of qualified women for the specific job just as men. Sexual harassment is also another contribute to wage gap, since women harassed in the work place decide to leave their job. Another significant aspect that leads to the wage gap is that women workers are undervalued. Suggestions from women in the work place are undervalued and serious suggestions from men valued. This means that men voices in the work place are louder as compared to women hence making the wage gap difference.
